CHINA TOWN MADRID

Overview

CHIMAD (Chinatown Madrid) was a project that challenged me to create a visual identity that blends tradition with a modern, urban feel. The goal was to develop a logo that reflects both Chinese cultural heritage and Madrid’s vibrant character, all while keeping it clean, versatile, and contemporary.

Process

I started by diving into the essence of Chinatown Madrid—its energy, cultural fusion, and how it could be represented visually. I wanted the logo to feel authentic but also fresh and adaptable. The icon is a custom monogram that subtly integrates the initials “C” and “M.” Through geometric abstraction and negative space, I created a dynamic yet structured mark that represents balance—a nod to both cultures. The rounded variations make it feel approachable while maintaining strength. Typography: A bold, sans-serif typeface to reinforce modernity and impact. Color Palette: Red as the dominant color—deeply rooted in Chinese symbolism (luck, prosperity)—contrasted with white for clarity and contrast. I explored different layouts, tested readability, and adapted the logo for various uses—ensuring it worked just as well on signage as it did in digital applications.

Outcome

The final result is a logo that is simple yet memorable, culturally rich yet modern. It successfully captures the essence of Chinatown Madrid while remaining flexible enough for various branding needs. This project was a great exercise in balancing tradition with innovation—something I strive for in all my design work.
